Fact-Checking & Corrections Policy
MSAWC.org is committed to providing informative and responsible content. We recognize that accurate information is essential to reader trust, and we take reasonable steps to verify factual claims, address errors, and keep published articles useful and relevant.
Our Fact-Checking Approach
Our fact-checking process may include reviewing original documents, consulting official sources, checking reputable publications, comparing multiple sources, and verifying important dates, figures, names, and claims.
The level of verification depends on the subject and the potential impact of an error. Health, finance, safety, and other specialized topics require particular care because inaccurate information may affect important decisions.
We aim to use sources that are relevant, credible, and appropriate for the claims being made. Where useful, articles may include links to supporting references so readers can explore the information further.
Reporting an Error
Readers are encouraged to report suspected factual errors, outdated details, misleading statements, broken references, or unclear explanations.
Please email support@msawc.org with the subject line Correction Request. Include:
- The title and URL of the relevant article.
- The specific statement or information you believe is incorrect.
- An explanation of the issue.
- Reliable supporting sources, if available.
Providing these details helps our team assess the concern efficiently.
How We Review Corrections
We review correction requests on a case-by-case basis. Our team may examine the original sources, check additional evidence, consult relevant expertise where appropriate, and determine whether the article needs a correction, clarification, update, or no change.
We cannot guarantee that every request will result in a revision. Decisions are based on the available evidence, the significance of the issue, and our editorial standards.
Types of Corrections
Depending on the circumstances, we may:
- Correct factual inaccuracies, including incorrect names, dates, figures, or statements.
- Clarify wording that could cause confusion or create a misleading impression.
- Update outdated information to reflect more recent developments.
- Correct broken links or replace unsuitable references.
- Add context when an important qualification or limitation was omitted.
Minor typographical or formatting changes may be made without a separate correction notice when they do not affect the meaning of the article.
Transparency and Updates
When an error is significant, we aim to correct it transparently and, where appropriate, explain the nature of the correction. We may update the article’s displayed date when a substantive revision is made, according to our publishing practices.
We do not knowingly retain material factual errors once they have been confirmed and brought to our attention.
Our Commitment
Fact-checking is an ongoing process, and no publishing process can guarantee that every article will be free from error. We welcome constructive feedback and use credible correction requests to improve the quality, clarity, and reliability of MSAWC.org.
